WODAPALOOZA Qualifier (Week 1)
Back in that Online Qualifier Grind! (Mixed Feelings. Lol.)
I only have mixed feeling towards online qualifier because of the amount of time they take up. I LOVE COMPETING! I love feeling that extra boost of adrenaline when there more on the line for a workout/lift/event! And there’s definitely a part of me that loves bring in the comfort of your own gym when it comes to video qualifier. But man, it literally took me 40min to set up and double check we had everything in order for workout 3 of WZA!
Here’s my process for getting ready for any video qualifier workout:
Read through workout and standards. Just like school days, Matt and I sit down and highlight anything that might be crucial to completing the workout correctly (movement standards, flow of workout, camera requirements.)
Set up equipment. I like to carry my lil printed scorecard around, double checking that I have all of my correct weights and measurements for the workout. If you compete in the official CrossFit Games season and make it to Quarterfinals, they’ll have you place you equipment at certain distances, requiring you to tape of sections of the floor off. All my warm up weights/unneeded equipment gets put to the side.
Set up cameras and clock. I do everything old school. I drag over a clock and an extension cord to have an actual clock in the background and set up both my iPhone and my iPad at different angles and double check that you can see everywhere I will while completing the workout.
Review Workout, Standards , and Strategy one last time! Ain’t nobody wanna have to go through the workout twice.
Warm Up! Finally.
Turn iPhone and iPad to Airplane Mode.
Start Videos. Intros and show equipment.
GET IT!
It’s A LOT! I’m sure other peeps have a much shorter process, but this is what works for me. Feel free to take my lil checklist if you need one!
I’ll be submitting my WODAPALOOZA Week later today. You can find the leaderboard HERE!
Event 1: I really loved this event, but let me tell yah… you can feel that we are not in prime qualifier/open shape right now. What I mean by that is, right now I am not focused on volume Toes to Bar or Volume Chest to Bar, I hardly do those movements at all right now because our focus is building some strength. I think it went well. I do love me some squat volume and I’ll never shy away from those nasty burpees. Good lil Grinder.
Event 2: Despite always being a bit low on the leaderbord when it come to the strength events, I LOVE TO LIFT. If you go around asking the compeitiors what some of their most memorable events are, they’ll probably say it was a max lift/complex. This complex was a Snatch + 2 Hang Snatches with a lil OHS tie break. I hit the numbers i wanted… it might have taken a few ugly words to get there, but I am overall very happy with this event.
Event 3: This guy was sneakyyyyyy. A sneaky lil snake that had you saying “only 3 rounds”. That third round guys… nooooooooppppeeee!!! It was sometin else. Also, I don’t rebound box jumps that often anymore. So if you see me hobbling around these next few days, you’ll know what its from. I think it pretty wild when we do interval in a competition setting, so this one was fun. First round was a piece of cake. I felt like i paced it well. Second round I just felt my legs starting to go. Round 3 was just fireball. Everything was one fire. If there’s one event from these 3 that I have no idea what it will look like on the leaderboard, it’s this one… so we shall see!
On to Week 2!
