Becca’s Quarterfinals Tips!

Are you excited for Quarterfinals?!

Lots of peeps have been asking me that question and of you are advancing to the next stage of competition, you might have been asked it too!

We’re gonna have lots of fun fitness stuff to do this week whether you’re fighting for a spot in live competition or looking to best your world wide placement and wrap up the season on a strong note. This is my 3rd round through This stage (in my opinion), it is the most stressful stage. If you are trying to qualify for semifinals, you need to get ready for all them videos. If you are looking to take on the challenge of a multiple day competition, you need a good game plan. And overall, no matter what position you are in the main things we want to do are HAVE FUN and COMPETE WELL!

(but if you are asking me I’m 50/50 on excitement level. I am always excited to compete, but am always a tad bit stressed when it comes to the to-do list for this particular stage)

Boring Tips:

  • READ AND UNDERSTAND THE RULES! Use a Highlighter!

    • Quarterfinals has a different structure than the open, you will have score submission windows for specific workouts. Makes sure you know when the workouts are due. Make sure you know your standards, THEY CHANGE OVER THE YEARS! You are NOT required to have a registered judge, but let’s make sure we gots the people that know the standards and can count. Personally, its difficult for me to count pass 14, so… ;)

    • When the workout comes out, I like to print out the whole .pdf and highlight all the important notes as I am reading through the workout and standards.

    • YOU (THE ATHLETE) need to read the standards, you are ultimately responsible! I’ve heard so many horror stories of athletes saying their coach read through them and they did not and overlooked a standard and had to redo a workout. GET AS MANY EYES ON THE RULES AS POSSIBLE!

Technology Checklist (If you plan on Video):

  1. Charge Up and Check Storage (make sure you have plenty of both)

  2. Set up your camera in a secure spot.

  3. Do a short video of your walking through each movement and where you will be at all times, including getting chalk/water etc. Stay in frame!

  4. SET ALL TECHNOLOGY TO AIRPLANE MODE!!!

  5. When you hit record, literally say out loud “we are recording” for your own piece of mind in your workout

  6. Before you stop the video, double check that you covered all the bases (equipment, measurements, standards)

FUN Competition Tips!

  • You GET to compete! Enjoy it! It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase your hard work and be thankful your body can do the amazing things it can do!

  • Rather than focusing on the ups and downs, focus on how well you ride the up and downs. There will always be highs and lows of competitions. Just like we talked about in our last MOVE Mindset video, time rolls on. Don’t forget to celebrate the wins and let the hard times go. You and the rest of the world will always be on to the next BIG thing!

  • Push Hard with your Peeps!! The whole experience is so much more fun when you have your buddies with you. So even if you did not qualify for Quarterfinals this year, maybe consider jumping into a workout or two and scale the workout as needed (just like we do in class)!

  • COMPETE HARD!!!! “Pressure is a Privilege”. If you are a bit nervous, that’s great! Having those extra jitters can be an extra lil boost/power-up when you learn to control them. Just take a deep breathe and realize you’ve done lots and lots of great reps in training and these workouts/reps will be no different. Competition reps are valuable and teach you how to execute! YOU ARE RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE, SO LET IT RIP!
